Alan R. Himmelstein, FACMPE
President

With more than 25 years of experience in medical practice management, Mr. Himmelstein has a broad background in healthcare consulting.  In 1997, while serving as Chief Operating Officer of the Alamo City Medical Group in San Antonio, he was the architect of Hospitalist of San Antonio, the first large inpatient management program in Central Texas.  This group serviced patients in 13 acute care hospitals in a fifty mile radius of San Antonio and managed patients for over 150 primary care physicians who chose to do no inpatient work.

He is the founder and President of Hospital Care Consultants which operates many highly successful Hospitalist programs.  These programs manage patients in Texas, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Kentucky, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Arkansas.  Hospital Care Consultants specializes in facilities located in suburban and rural settings.

Mr. Himmelstein graduated from the University of Tennessee with a BA in Mathematics and has an MBA from the University of North Florida.  He is a certified Medical Practice Executive and a Fellow in the American College of Medical Practice Executives, serving as Chairman of the examinations committee of the College. 

Mr. Himmelstein lectures on hospitalist programs throughout the United States, having presented at national and regional conferences as well as to numerous State Medical Societies.  He speaks regularly to large hospital systems. 

Bruce B. Hamel, MBA, CMPE
Director of Operations

Mr. Hamel has over three decades of executive healthcare experience.  Mr. Hamel’s education includes a BS in zoology and an MBA with healthcare emphasis from the University of Houston.  He did his administrative residency at Houston’s St. Joseph Hospital.  He served as a Medical Services Corps officer in the US Army, where his accomplishments included service in a 1000 bed hospital, command of a field hospital, and assignment as a senior healthcare planner with NATO.

Mr. Hamel’s experience includes hospital administration of facilities from 40 to 480 bed and management of group practices from 7 to over 600 physicians with operations in the United States and internationally.  He has held healthcare positions as a COO, CFO and CEO.  He first began working with hospitalists in 1992.  Prior to joining HCC, he has managed hospitalist practices with Aramco, Hospitalists of San Antonio and IPC The Hospitalist Company.
